Its roots

The history of Mariaflora, that is, the history of the Uecher family goes back four generations in the Italian Alps. Filippo Uecher was the founder, designer and master weaver of Mariaflora. He loves to reminisce about his hometown: "Biella is a picturesque town set among thriving valleys and green pastures."

Our territory has the reputation of having a remarkable wool and textile tradition, but we have never really been wool producers. Our ancestors had no wool, no flocks, no farms. However, Biella was blessed with a precious gift: the softest waters in Europe. When our ancestors realized that the mineral waters that flowed through our valleys made it possible to produce fabrics of incomparable softness, dozens of families took over looms. In less than a century, they transformed Biella into a prosperous land of weavers.

"My grandmothers, Maria and Flora, were among those who made it possible and subsequently passed on the secrets of traditional Italian craftsmanship."
