In 1875, Anna Eijffinger and her husband Theo opened a wallpaper store across the street from the Noordeinde Royal Palace in The Hague. It was a time of growing interest in interior decoration. Anna possessed strong entrepreneurial instincts and worked behind the scenes running the company. At that time, it was extremely unusual to find a woman running a business. This sign of women's liberation formed the basis for the eccentric and innovative vision that characterized the Eijffinger brand from the very beginning.
